WORLD MUSIC SERIES 2008 three concerts at THE RHODES ART COMPLEX, BISHOPS STORTFORD www.rhodesbishopsstortford.org.uk FEB 3rd 7pm SARDINIA The first in the Real Music Network world music series of Sunday concerts in which leading world/fusion pioneer RAVI presents and collaborates with pioneers from around the world, this time with Gesuino Deiana from Sardinia Gesuino Deiana is the leading guiatrist of Sardinian guitar, a style unique to the island with its 1000 year old culture that includes instruments unique to this large island off the coast of Italy. As well as founding the leading Sardinian contemporary group, Cordas et Cannas, a cultural organisation and music festival (in his home town of Olbia), Gesuino has performed around the world for festivals such as WOMAD, recorded for Peter Gabriel’s Real World Records and introduced to the world the most well known Sardinian act Tenores De Bitti The two musicians will collaborate during the day with a workshop and an evening performance with full band March 2nd at 7pm SOUTH AFRICA Pops Mohamed The second in the Real Music Network world music series of Sunday concerts in which leading world/fusion pioneer RAVI presents and collaborates with pioneers from around the world, this time with Pops Mohamed from South Africa. The two musicians will collaborate during the day with a SOUND JOURNEY and an evening performance with full band Pops Mohamed is one of South Africa’s most sort after multi-instrumentalist’s, playing Mbira, Bushmen mouthbow, Kalimba, Kora, Didgerioo and percussion. A prolific composer, arranger and music programmer who has performed around the world with musicians from many cultures, his aim is to protect and preserve African traditional instruments particularly of the San people "The Bushmen of the Kalahari” MARCH 16th at 7pm The third in the Real Music Network world music series of Sunday concerts in which leading world/fusion pioneer RAVI presents and collaborates with pioneers from around the world, this time with Tarun Bhattacharta from India One of India’s greatest classical musicians, Tarun trained under the legendary Ravi Shankar and is a master and inovator of the santoor (100 stringed hammered zither) As well as numerous groundbreaking recordings he has performed in many of the world’s main concert halls, including The Kremlin and The Albert Hall. This performance will be the first re-union since Tarun and Ravi’s recordings and concerts in India and UK in 1998.
